Today was surely not just an ordinary day at PDS. Me and my upperschool peers and staff gathered in the theatre to hear congressional candidate, Dr. Alieta Eck, speak. I can honestly say I was surprised to a level Id never been. She began giving us a background as to why she was running, and how she got the idea to run. I think that I can say on behalf of me and my peers that no one thought she was well prepared to take on a group like ours. I believe we were so intellectually advanced with our questions and comments that she was taken aback by them. At times she beat around the bush and didnt really answer some peoples questions. The whole discussion was contradictory on her side and in some ways hypocritical. I would like to applaud my fellow peer Ziad Abed, he stood up for something, even if the majority of the theatre disagreed. Dr. Eck said some very offensive to the Muslim/Arab people. She basically insinuated that all muslims and arabs were terrorist. After Ziad spoke up, of course she took a moment to think about what it was she had said. I know that particularly Ziad and I were offended because we are Muslim, and I am arab. After the assembly everyone bursted out of the theatre doors with high energy levels, with so much to say about the topic. But I was insanely angry when I heard fellow peers say that Ziad didnt take what she said the right way, because she indeed said it even if she didnt mean it. Ziad and I both think that PDS needs to take charge and issue a statement stating how the PDS community doesnt condone the offensive remarks and comments she made through out the discussion, and so that my peers know that this is not something that can just happen with out anything being said.
