Today was the 2nd anniversary of the marriage of Charlotte and me. She is an amazing woman I am married to my best friend. She is very smart and has learned about so many interesting things. And she keeps me laughing! I am very grateful to have Charlotte in my life. The time has passed quickly, but it feels as though weve been married for 20 years. I thank Charlotte and God for the time we have had together. Our first date was February 04, 2011. Before then, we had not seen one another since 1966. We never dated at AHS and we just friends. She was out of my league and I just lusted from afar. Charlotte had been divorced for over 30 years. We had both given up on dating. Her for a while and me for only a short time. She saw my name on FB. I had just joined. She called. We talked for 2 hours. Initially, we just expected to be friends, but that quickly gave way to romance. I was then City Judge. When Julie Wood, a court clerk, and Liz Cope, a warrant officer, learned that I had a date, they were excited and curious. They asked all about Charlotte and how we knew one another. The most memorable exchange was when they asked what Charlotte looked like and if Charlotte was pretty. I explained that I didnt know because I hadnt seen her since 1966, but she was gorgeous in high school. They then told me: Just remember, youre not exactly George Clooney! Charlotte is beautiful, especially her soul. We married January 16, 2013 in an Angleton jail cell. In high school, we were in the play The Night of January 16th. Charlotte played a woman who was having an affair with a married man. He returned to his wife (played by Theresa BunnyWhite). Shortly thereafter, he was murdered. Charlottes character was charged. I played her defense lawyer. Bruce Melbert played the prosecutor. A jury panel from the audience voted guilty or not guilty during intermission. The play had two endings. They voted not guilty twice and guilty once. I tell her that she was my first client. We decided to marry in a jail cell on January 16th to pretend that she was just now making parole and marrying her lawyer. City Judge Bob LeBouef presided. Liz Cope was the Maid of Honor (wearing her police uniform ). My buddy Sam Lindsey was best man. Dana Joy Cox-Alsobrook and Sammy Alsobrook attended. As did my cousin and his wife, Mike Martin and Maria Martin. We made the front page of The Brazosport Facts. When I told Patti Easterling Worfe about our wedding plans, she snitched to the Facts. I thank God for Charlotte and that we are so happy. Im still surprised! Delightfully so! I just never expected it.
