Today was the first official use of the Rave Alert - Mass notification system that is part of Smart911. Rave Alert was made possible by Ionia County Emergency Manager Doug DeVries. People who have created a Smart911 Safety Profile who live in Ionia County or list a secondary address (i.e. work address) in Ionia County can opt in to receive notifications such as the thunderstorm warning issued today. You can receive text, voice messages or emails (opt for any one or all three) to your cell phone, smart phone, computer email, or home telephone; notifying you of a serious situation or emergency. Another feature of Rave Alert is the automatic calling with a voice message to all land line telephones in Ionia County. The land lines are called automatically even if the subscriber has not created a Safety Profile.
