Today we Salute Miss Sassy Thing, The Mother of Hip Hop. Writer, Producer and Artist. Ms Sylvia Vanderpool aka Sylvia Robinson born 6/3 /1939 in Englewood New Jersey. She began her career in the 1950s as a duet teaming up with Mickey Baker. Their first hit selling over a million copies Love is Strange in 1956 for which they received a Gold disc. They brought their own nightclub and established their own record label. As a group they disbanded in the late 50s but continued to work together on various projects. They eventually went their separate ways in 1965. As an artist she collaborated with The Moments and Whatnaughts, Chuck Jackson. And not to mention the songs she wrote for countless artists over the years. Her own claim to fame was in the 70s where she had a number of raunchy hits, namely Pillow Talk and Sweet Stuff. Towards the late 70s she step up The Surgarhill Record Label. She was considered to be one of the founders that launched Hip Hop into the mainstream. The Sugar Hill Gang was one of the first Hip Hop acts to break into the charts. The likes of Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five, Positve Force Candi Staton. Were some of the acts on her label. A pioneer in an industry that had very few producers and CEOs that were women at that time. On 29/9/2011 Ms Robinson passed away at the age of 75 in Secacus New York. A true inspiration and all round talent.Todays track was released in 1974 Gimme a little Action RIP Ms Robinson 6/3/1939 - 29/9/2011.
