Today we are featuring a very special artist, the exceptionally gifted David Helfgott. Several years ago I watched the movie Shine about this exceptional pianists life. The movie introduced me to much of the music of Rachmaninoff, especially his 3rd Piano Concerto, the infamous Rach 3, portrayed heavily throughout the movie. After watching Shine I was deeply inspired to actually learn how to play several of Rachmaninoffs compositions including the Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini, 18th variation, my personal performance of which you can hear on the home page of our web site. If anyone has not seen this movie, it is an absolute must see for any serious piano lover. Here is the famous Flight of the Bumble scene where David blows away the naysayers. David Helfgott was expertly played by Geoffrey Rush who won an Academy Award for best actor.
