Learn more about #GoldStarPins at GoldStarPins.org SSG Reid was serving his second tour in Afghanistan as an Explosive Ordnance Disposal Technician when he was wounded on December 9, 2013. A few days later he died at a hospital in Germany. After his death, he received the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart. His commander spoke at the ceremony and said he had never seen a more dedicated soldier than Reid. Yesterday Brockport community members paid tribute to a local soldier killed in the line of duty by renaming their post office to the Staff Sergeant Nicholas J. Reid Post Office Building. Ken and Dorothy Reid watched as their son’s photo and name was unveiled on the wall of a building known for community, service, and tradition. “He was a dedicated EOD solider, he loved EOD, it was his first choice, and he did what he did because that was his goal in life and he loved it, said Dorothy Reid. And while just steps down the street is where he spent some of the beginning of his life, this building wont serve as a reminder of his death, but as a reminder of the life he lived for a community he loved. This is where he was raised and it was this community that helped form his character that he wanted to serve, said Dorothy Reid.
