Today we celebrate 75 years since my Grandfather proudly opened the family business doors of Johns Meat Market. To me, the meat market wasnt just the place my father worked. It represented the Italian way, of hard work and dedication that my grandfather, and then my father & uncle do day in and day out in order to provide for family. I often remember my father giving me a quick kiss at night, telling me he loved me and to sleep tight, and him being gone before the sun came up. Ive seen the hard work wear on his body as he ages, and yet keep him young in the same regard. Ultimately, this meat market surviving 75 years reminds me what a dream, hard work and dedication means in all regards of life. No matter how tired my father may have been, he never failed to show to one thing that mattered to me-- or any of his four pain in the butt children (even if he had sawdust on his pants!). It has not always been easy, but I thank God everyday for blessing my Grandfather with the indomitable will to be successful and the character to always be proud of who you are and what you represent, which he inevitably passed to the man I am lucky to call my father. I only hope to one day be as successful, kind and strong as him-- you are the love of my life, Daddy! Grandpa- You never spoke of one day in this store as a day of work. You showed us what being passionate is all about. And to Grandma who was always the woman beside you & allowed you to be so passionate about food-- the love you two shared will always be felt in the name Johns Meat Market.
