Today we celebrated and laid to rest the late WILSON WATHINJA KIMWAKI of Mikeu location. For those of us who have known him for the last several decades, it is a challenge to describe this enigma. This former headmaster suffered mental disability in 1964 but he never missed to attend a single public gathering be it a funeral, school meeting, political rally etc where he would make educated noise mostly in English. He is the first person I heard speak the Queens English, he would go to the classrooms after lessons and on weekends and fill the blackboard with serious notes with one of the best handwriting I have ever seen He would of course innocently call people the most terrible nicknames ordinarily used behind their backs. All young boys cruelly teased him and the village cowards to proof their masculinity would assault him. If wronged he he had the most embarrassing insults. .... Mark my words Wathinja was a celebrity dearly loved by the people of Mikeu especially during his latter grandfather years. His send off today was one of the most well attended in recent history Of course my pal David Wanjohi has never ceased to tease me on the occasion when the deceased grabbed a hare caught by my dog and I and my fellow boys watched helplessly as he disappeared with our dinner. May the Almighty God rest his soul in eternal peace. I would like anyone who knew the late Wilson to mention what you remember him for.
