Today we immersed ourselves in the culture of Lima, Peru. We - TopicsExpress

Today we immersed ourselves in the culture of Lima, Peru. We toured the pre-incan ruins of Huaca Pucllana and learned a great deal about a sea-worshipping civilization from ~500 AD. We exercised our espanol skills (or lack thereof...) by negotiating with taxi drivers in what is considered one of if not the most dangerous driving cities in the world. We ate traditional Peruvian cuisine as well as fresh native fruit, learned local folklore, went to a contemporary art gallery as well as took in some great street art, and went to a few open markets selling both cultural gift items as well as an electronics market. It would have been really easy to just party in the Lima discotheques or spend all day drinking pisco sours and/or cafe americanos. But I think, due in no small part to the brilliant guiding by Rodney Dodig, we utilized our tourist day to develop a strong appreciation for Limas culture both historic and contemporary.
