Today we in Trinidad and Tobago bury an outstanding citizen. In his death the late ANR Robinson was able to do what evaded him in his lifetime- unite Trinidad and Tobago. He came close though in that in 1986 he led the National Alliance for Reconstruction into a mass reversal of the fortunes of the Peoples National Movement government. But that was not his victory. As with Kamla Persad-Bissessar in 2010 it was accorded unity with Basdeo Panday and the late Karl Hudson-Phillips that brought that great electoral victory. But love him as some only did the late President and Prime Minister was no populist but a brave man of great moral principle. It is in the ethics of his life that his epitaph stone will be engraved. We saw a regal Prime Minister and a hopeful Leader of the Opposition earning points today in the display of great dignity in their offices. A good day for the nation.
