Today we lost one of the class acts of the climbing world. He was the youngest member of the 1953 American K2 Expedition and went on from that momentous climb to an heroic career as a mountaineer including the tragic expedition that is recounted in his book, Storm and Sorrow. He was an early Executive Director at the Aspen Institute (1953-65) and the founder of The Keystone Center. He served as President of The American Alpine Club from 1983-1985. Well miss him.
