He was the youngest member of the 1953 American K2 Expedition and went on from that momentous climb to an heroic career as a mountaineer including the tragic expedition that is recounted in his book, Storm and Sorrow. He was an early Executive Director at the Aspen Institute (1953-65) and the founder of The Keystone Center. He served as President of The American Alpine Club from 1983-1985. Well miss him.
