Today, we mourn the passing of former Congressman Otis G. Pike, who represented New York’s First Congressional District for 18 years. Congressman Pike was a tireless watchdog who made sure that the government was doing all it could to best serve the interests of the public. He led the first Congressional investigation into the activities of the CIA and fought to curtail waste in military spending. I would like to express my condolences to his family – his wife, Barbe; his daughter, Lois; his son, Douglas; and his grandchildren. Congressman Pike was an admirable and dedicated public servant, and one whose career should serve as a model for all who are engaged in public service.
