Today we remember Juneteenth Day. This was the day that oppressed people in Texas were given a message of freedom. President Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation in January 1863 but it took two years before the enslaved black Texans were told that they were no longer slaves. June 19th is a joyous day to celebrate freedom and equal rights.
