Today we said goodbye to my gram, Alyce Louis-Schmitt. While Father Bob knew her well and delivered a great Eulogy, my mom preferred the one I wrote, but I just couldnt bear to read it at the funeral. I thought this would be an appropriate place to share a few things about my gram that I knew to be true. she loved country music, michael bolton, elvis, johnny mathis, gladys knight and neil diamond. She once asked me to get her tickets to Neils concert so close, that she would be able to sit on his lap. i even remember her really liking boys II men and buying their cassettes. she liked crime shows, law and order in particular, the waltons, the golden girls, especially betty white. she loved old game shows, carol burnette and her variety show, and she LOVED paul newman. she loved the lethal weapon movies, gone with the wind, madam x, an affair to remember. I will never forget going to the theater with her to see the great outdoors, and then later drop dead fred, and she laughed so hard at those movies that i thought we were going to get kicked out. she loved danielle steel novels, playing cards, and playing bingo. she loved to talk on the phone and keep in touch with distant relatives and friends. she loved to reminisce about the good old days and the way pittsburgh used to be. she loved to go to eatn park. She was a total workaholic her entire life. when father bob said she liked to be in charge, he wasnt lying! she took care of everyone in her family and some not in her family. she loved to cook and bake and refused to give out her best recipes (like me!) she liked satin jammies, gold bracelets, private collection perfume, and all things red. and lets face it, she loved to smoke her cigarettes! and this is just in my lifetime. my gram and I were closer than a lot of grandparents and their grandchildren because it was always just me mom and gram, the 3 musketeers. and then last year we were blessed to have finny join our family. it doesnt seem real that I have to live in a world that she isnt apart of but i hope that someday, we will all be together again. Love you gram.
