Today we say our goodbyes to a great friend This is part of his eulogy and around 1330 raise a glass to remember his love of family, fishing and life. See you on the flip side Splash I first heard Garry on the radio as I was returning from a charter when he was out on an ANSA tagging day. It was the Lilley enthusiasm that got me to pick up the mike, call, and ask you want to tag some fish? I look back today and smile, as that was the start of one of the most special relationships of my life. Caroline, Lou, Andrew and Mathew - we all feel your pain and grief, that the passing of Garry has caused but as you look around I hope you take comfort that he was the linchpin that held, directed and organised the many friends that all stand here with you in this sad time. Wally has touched on some of the many, many things that Gaz achieved bettering the west Australia fishing community. The Lilley bomb/ release weight just shows his ability to think outside the square. I fondly remember when we where filming the use of the release weight and the fish had a tag placed and he moved to the side of the boat and stood. He gave me a puzzled look and said what do I do now? As he said that his brain kicked into gear - ohh thats right, release the fish. Needless to say - we retook that shot so we didnt look like a pair of clowns. As folk have found out about Garrys passing I have received endless phone calls from around Australia and with no surprise many from over seas. During these call there have been so many stories - Ill relay a couple. A group of SA anglers talked about the time Diggers sunnies fell off and into the water, Gaz quick as a flash leapt over the side of the boat to rescue them. When he got back on board proudly with the sunnies in hand Digger said, they are just Mcgyvoroods - made up of many broken sunglasses not the flash ones Garry had believed so with the realisation he tossed them back in the water with the look of disgust - more so when we all saw the 14 mako that was shadowing the boat. Garry had an alias or two that he loved to shit stir with: The on going battle between kelmscott van houtercheston and Karl Langdon will surely go down in history at 6PR as Karl firmly believed that he was being stalked be some nutter - he wasnt that far off the truth. The classic was when Gaz sent Karl a carton of beer for Christmas with a rubber snake that jumped out at him. If Karl could work out who kelmscott van houtercheston was I think a restraining order would have followed. I have shared some of the most important events in my life with Gaz. From crazy-fishing adventures, to taking up the challenge of fishing politics to his backyard solving of most problems in the world over a beer and a laugh. My mate - a son - a husband - a father - our friend!! RIP Splash
