Today we took a break from CIA to do some work to start getting familiar with the Smarter Balanced tests format. We read a non-fiction selection about Eleanor Roosevelt. It talked about the Great Depression and World War II briefly. My whole class perked right up. One student said that Grandpa Jack from The War with Grandpa was little at that time! Everyone else nodded their heads and shared their thoughts. A question later dealt with cause and effect. As soon as I said, Cause and Effect again my class perked right up. They shared how Poppy had cause and effect and shared examples from the book! Test prep and such isnt my favorite thing to teach, but it is needed.
