Today we took our big 17 year old breeding Harris Hawk out of the aviary to get her ready for the hunting season. Shes late out because of three influences. When birds breed they moult late. The boss has worked this birds its whole life and he is still recuperating from shoulder surgery, and the amount of ground cover is still too great for much hunting in many places. So anyway, she came out today. While we were at it, we decided to catch the last remaining youngster she produced this year. A male. Now 22 weeks old, we weighed him, checked him over and put him back in with his Dad. Here he is at an impressive and pleasing 2lb 2ozs wearing no falconry furniture except a hood. Hell be a super large hunting male.
