Today we went from Dunboyne to Knowth and Newgrange , I have to say both sites are stunning and well worth the visit. However when we were there Birdie was screeching a bit in the visitors centre as they was just so much going on. A woman ( I almost said lady) approached us, put her hand on wee Birdie and stooped to look right into his face and said Will you please STOP screaming , youre hurting my ears We were totally stunned and tried to explain that Birdie is autistic and doesnt talk and she answered us with Well so ,what about my ears I had to walk away and Kevin tried once more to say that our wee man doesnt mean any harm , two waved hands and what about my ears which she then covered with her hands and walked away. This really upset me , when people do this it breaks my heart. As a mum it feels like my beautiful child is being rejected. Like he isnt welcome. He isnt a bold child, he isnt a spoilt child in fact he is an exceptional child. Never make a parent feel like their child isnt a welcome and valued person just because you dont understand the needs of that child. It pays to bite your tongue. Trust me , I do it everyday , even today when every ounce of me wanted to go straight on the verbal attack. I didnt , I am not sorry I didnt. I showed my children by example how to behave in public and how to react to people that you dont understand. I had manners!!! Birdie you are perfect , we love you and we wouldnt change you for the world . xxxx
