“Today, western civilization, especially America, is probably the greatest meat consuming country in the world. This means that actually the American people eat more meat than probably any other nation can afford. And as a result of this, the physical cost of meat is rising rapidly. But sometime, there is a suspicion floating around, that this was not entirely a good idea - even entirely apart from the affect on animal life. That it was not a good idea for the human being to eat a large amount of meat. That this led almost inevitably to physical ailments, had a tendency to shorten life, and that it was a mistake to assume that meat was the source of strength. It might give some assistance or physical stamina to those in very heavy physical labour, but for the most part, excessive meat eating is detrimental to health, and has a certain affect upon psychology.
