Today when we read the Old Testament, we may not relate very well - TopicsExpress

Today when we read the Old Testament, we may not relate very well to the Israelites. We may think they were too weird, too ancient, or too holy for us. But Gods people then were not unlike Gods people now. They werent anxious to face a vicious enemy armed only with robes and choir books. Their enemies had swords, spears, and chariots with spikes on the wheels. Was God trying to make a pincushion out of them? The situation would be equivalent to the President coming on the airwaves today with an emergency broadcast: Our enemies are assembled off the west coast with nuclear missiles prepared to blow up every town, city, and shopping mall in America. But were ready for them. Our defense will be to assemble every church choir on the beach to sing at the missiles. Wouldnt this plan sound preposterous? Yet thats exactly what happened as the people of judah went up against the Moabites and Ammonites under the leadership of King Jehoshaphat. And when they obeyed God and sang at their enemies, they didnt have to lift a sword ( or even a finger) in their defense, the enemy became confused and began to destroy one another (2 Chronicles 20:20-30).
