Today, while I was teaching in the front room, I heard a big thud - TopicsExpress

Today, while I was teaching in the front room, I heard a big thud in the back of the house. This is not an unusual noise in a house with six people, and no one cried or said, Mooooo-oooom, so I ignored it. Ahem. After I was finished, I came to the kitchen to finish prepping supper. I was cutting a potato when Lida said, Momma, what is this big puddle? I looked over and initially thought the big puddle was dog pee. I WISH it had been dog pee. I walk over to investigate and my heart sank. My brand new, Sams size, all-natural laundry detergent had fallen from the washer to the dryer during the spin cycle. The lid was only placed on the top, so the lid came flying off and the container landed on its side. On. Its. Side. My brand new bottle of laundry detergent spilt all over the top, sides, and front of the dryer, and all over the floor. This continued happening until I noticed the puddle, which was approximately 30 minutes after I heard the thud. What a mess. WHAT A MESS. After I used nearly every towel in the bathroom to sop up the soap, I threw them all in the washer. Quinn had come home by this time and volunteered to mop up the laundry room while I got the kids something to eat. Because, of course, Felixs choir concert was tonight and everybody needed to get over to the school. Quinn walked Felix over to the school while I cleaned up from supper. I checked on the washer and saw the word sud. Suspicion. I paused the machine and opened the door. Gasp. The soap came pouring out of the machine. I was so shocked that I stood there just gaping at it. And it just kept on pouring. Luckily, my friend Crissy had popped in earlier and she said, CLOSE THE DOOR! I slammed it shut and we came up with a plan. Actually, she came up with a plan because I was a wide-eyed idiot by this point. Every towel needed to be hosed off by hand in the yard, the suds needed to be cleaned out of the washer, and the washer needed to be set on the rinse and spin cycle twice to get rid of the rest of the soap. She hung up the towels while I cleaned the laundry room floor (AGAIN) of soap and water and then I walked over to watch the rest of the program at the school (because I was late). Now, the towels have all been hosed off (thanks to Quinn) and were washing small loads of towels to avoid more soap-pouring-out-of-my-washing-machine incidences. Thanks to my lovely neighbors, RonDebbie Landry, for coming to my rescue and my friend, Crissy, who literally had to mop me off the floor and hang me out to dry. Lesson learned today? Screw the lid on the detergent and dont set it on top of the washer. #mylaundryroomissuperclean #icouldsmellmyhousefromastreetover #twitchtwitch
