Today would be Amanda’s 30th birthday. As I looked back through emails she had sent in the past I found this one that she sent the week after her 20th birthday, while working at a camp in Colorado for the summer. I thought I would let you meet my daughter. “Unbelievably, the first ‘week’ is over. It was an extra-long week for us that started with the arrival of a rental group on Friday and ended only yesterday afternoon with the departure of a second….I was scheduled to work in the dining room this week, but I was transferred to the kitchen. I am grateful for the change! It was SO much fun and I learned lots! Can’t wait to get home and try some of it out. The staff here is all wonderful. ….After this week, I will be a counselor for two consecutive weeks. Pray that I will find time and inspiration this week as I prepare devotions for the girls. Pray that I will adjust well to the differences between camp here and camp at other places I have worked. Pray for soft hearts and discerning spirits on the part of the counselors. After those two weeks, I am scheduled to work two weeks in the office, followed by the last three weeks as a counselor. Thank you so much for all of your prayers. They have been felt and seen in the smooth transitions of this first week. I am really enjoying my time here and remain sure that this is where God wanted me for the summer. The devotional and prayer times with the rest of the staff have been especially meaningful this week. It has been wonderful to sense how clearly God is teaching and leading me. I have also been greatly impressed and moved by the simple power in the spoken Word of the Lord. Thanks again for all your support. Thanks to those of you who sent cards or notes for my birthday last week as well! The staff here made me feel special as well, especially since it was only the second day of camp.
