Today would have been Robins 61st birthday. Ill temper that - TopicsExpress

Today would have been Robins 61st birthday. Ill temper that statement by reflecting back to a happier time & tell you about her 50th birthday celebration in 2003. Just thinking about it puts a smile on my face eleven years later. And I know she will be glad to see us smiling as we remember her on this day. It was a surprise birthday party at the Naples Bath & Tennis Club. For the entertainment, I booked Elvis Wayne (yes he had even legally changed his name), an Elvis impersonator from Ft Myers. I had befriended Elvis a few years earlier when I began hosting his entertainment website in my internet business. Elvis had a day job selling Nissans, but at night he morphed into the real Elvis. Connie & Minta, two of Robins high school friends from Naperville (suburban Chicago), had flown down for the week and were staying with us. Even they were able to keep the surprise party a secret. In attendance at the party were many of our Naples friends. In addition, Robins Dad came up from Marco Island along with a large contingent of his friends from Hideaway Beach Club, folks who we regularly socialized with when we visited him on Marco. Her son John flew in from Atlanta going directly from the airport to the party. Daughter Carly came down from Estero. Robin’s brother Mick and his wife Kathy came down from Boca Grande. My parents, my brother Greg and his then wife Amy, my sister Susan and Uncle Fred also attended. Our guests proudly wore their custom name tags hanging from their necks. Everyone enjoyed the open bar and hors doeuvres as they waited our arrival. To get Robin to the party without raising suspicion, I told her that the four of us were going to Mangrove Cafe for her birthday dinner, but first I wanted to stop & meet a visiting out of town friend for a quick drink at Naples Bath & Tennis. When we walked into the banquet room, her jaw dropped as she began to recognize face after face, all of who were yelling Happy Birthday & Surprise. To say she was surprised is an understatement. Elvis did several great sets and even made several costume changes, highlighting the different periods in Elviss life. A fun time was had by all! So smile with me today in rememberance! I will let the pictures tell the rest of the story. (The video below is of Elvis Wayne but not at our party). youtube/watch?v=vQsZf94Gjfc
