Today would have been my brother Pat Neumans, 64th birthday. (Happy birthday Pat!) During the last nine years of his life (January 2000 - June 28, 2009), Pat strongly advocated that much more attention be paid to what he believed was the very real threat of global warming, which is caused by too much fossil fuel burning (gasoline, coal, natural gas, diesel fuel, jet fuel, etc.) in transportation, electricity production, heating, and other work and recreational uses, and which is resulting in increased accumulations of heat trapping greenhouse gases in the earths atmosphere. Pat had also recommended as early as January 2000 that his long time employer, the U.S. National Weather Service (NOAA), properly inform U.S. citizens about the threat of global warming or climate change, and what he believed was a great need for timely action, by our government and everyone else, to prevent even more rapid and threatening global warming from happening. Unfortunately, Pats employer, our Natural Weather Service, was reluctant to accept Pats legitimate warnings and recommendations voiced 2000 - 2004, and despite Pats stellar record with the NWS from the late 1970s until then, decided to serve him with numerous disciplinary actions instead and eventually forced him to retire in 2005 after wrongly attempting to remove him from his position as senior flood forecaster in the NWSs North Central Regional office in Minnesota in 2004.
