Todays 3-2-1 Hit: SAD EYES by Robert John. Seemingly out of left field, this New York pop singer scored this huge hit after not having charted at all for seven years. This slice of sap has an undeniable serious of hooks, capped by Johns serious falsetto during the final chorus. Amid the chart-topping power pop of The Knack and any number of pure disco songs, this sad ballad was an unexpected change of pace at the top of the Hot 100. This is the album version which is 45 seconds longer than the single edit, mostly in the extended instrumental intro.
