Todays Advent Devotional Tuesday, December 30 - “The Eyes of Love” Read Psalm 147: 7-14 – He strengthens the bars of your gates and blesses your people within them. He grants peace to your borders and satisfies you with the finest of wheat. As this year draws to a close, this verse seems as relevant today as it was to the people of Israel in the Old Testament. If we trust in the Lord, as we all say we do, then why is it that we let politics divide us so? Jesus has taught us a better way. We know that He was all about relationships. The three years of His ministry gave us all kinds of parables and examples that, quite frankly, even His disciples didn’t “get” at first. For most of us, reading and studying don’t always sink in. To think like Jesus, we must take a step back and contemplate an issue, discuss without condemnation, look at elements of the issue with an eye to a solution, not taking sides. Look at each other with “eyes of love”, which is how Jesus sees us. The more we practice this intentionally, the easier it becomes. This new year, let’s move toward treating everyone with respect, using the “eyes of love” to see the Jesus in each other. Let’s work toward solutions to issues and what’s best for the people, whether it be for the congregation or the family, the community or the nation, or the world. What would Jesus do? He would love His neighbor unconditionally. Can we do any less? Abba Father, teach us to think more like Jesus, to look at each other through the “eyes of Love” as You see us. Thank You for Your strength, Your peace, and Your blessing. Amen Today I will practice looking at those around me with God’s eyes. I will practice conversation rather than debate. Karen Janota
