Todays Amy update is brought to you by snickers bars and cankles... She is a sick girl. Last night her oxygen level kept dropping, blood pressure and heart rate went up. Chest xray showed atalectasis. So they stopped her IV fluids and gave her Lasix to help with the fluid build up. She had lab work drawn which showed that her vancomycin level was 118 more than 5 times normal level, which caused her kidney function levels to go up as well...for my medical folks creatinine was 4.1. Nephrologist was called in and said that Amy had a kidney injury...me I call it acute kidney failure. She was taken for a renal ultrasound which showed a 2cm larger change in the kidney size. Repeated lab work was ordered and showed both of those levels to be even higher yet. SOOOO...Amy now has a central line in her neck and has received her first round of hemodialysis. She tolerated procedure well. Really she slept through it, because being my kid she chose knock my ass out as apposed to just make me forget. Back to the room at midnight to make up for lost time with needing to get wound care done. They have decided to put an indewelling foley in to make sure that the kidney are putting out enough urine. IV fluids are up and running. Vancomycin is on hold and 2nd antibiotic being recalculated for a renal patient. Tomorrow more blood work in the morning. She will be going back down stairs for an other round of hemodialysis. I cant begin to tell you how much it means to our family for you prayers and support. Love to you all!!
