Todays Bible Study Gospel Of John 1/8/15 Sorry its a bit late but I had tests all day today. The Dialogues of Jesus One of the distinctive features of Johns Gospel is its structure. This Gospel alone emphasizes Christs discourses, while the others emphasize the acts of Jesus. Johns Gospel was written many years after Christ lived. Some believe it was written in the A.D. 1 A.D., some 60 years after Christ spoke the words reported here. Yet we should not be surprised that John reported the words of the Lord so confidently. Undoubtedly John in his teaching had for years told and retold the discourses. We can be confident that his summaries of what were undoubtedly much longer sermons are accurate. Even more important, we can be sure that the Holy Spirit guided John to record just what God intended us to have. What then are the discourses? Here are key talks that make up the bulk of this powerful Gospel. 1. On the new birth: 3:1-21 2. On the water of life: 4:4-26 3. On resurrection and life: 5:19-47 4. On the bread of life: 6:26-59 5. On the deity of Jesus: 8:12-59 6. On the shepherd and flock: 10:1-21 7. More on the deity of Jesus 10:22-38 8. On redemption: 12:20-50 9. On life while Jesus is gone: 13:31-14:31 10. On union with Jesus: 15-16 A number of these discourses display a similar form or pattern. They are launched with a question from a disciple or onlooker. Jesus made a brief, enigmatic reply. And then Jesus went on to give a wide-ranging explanation.
