He impressed Fela Kuti (then still Ransome Kuti) when he performed in Lagos, Nigeria. It is said that Kuti then moved to America in order to promote his music because he didnt believe he could compete with Geraldo Pinos popularity in Africa. You can see clearly from this single song where Fela got his inspiration - from the Hammond to the Western funk, and possibly even to the lyrical message.
