These parables’ distinctive style and warmth illustrate Luke’s remarkable gift for storytelling or, to be more specific, for capturing Jesus’ storytelling and parable-telling in a unique and special way. If we are honest, this parable about a Samaritan who goes out of his way to help his fellow human being speaks to us about social action. And this is a very apt and fitting interpretation: we are called to be good samaritians who reach out in mercy and compassion to those who are beaten up and wounded by life and in need of practical help and support.
