Todays Devotion Text: The Past Life Of Sin & The New Life In Christ! (Self Assessment 54) BACKGROUND: Everyone in Christ today was once lost and caught up in sin. A terrible past that seeks to destroy our confidence in the new life Christ gives. Todays discussion seeks to explore the practical ways by which new converts can remain true to the faith so that skeptics will see and glorify God for our lives. Text: Gal 1: 11- 13, 21- 24 11 But I make known to you, brethren, that the gospel which was preached by me is not according to man. 12 For I neither received it from man, nor was I taught it, but it came through the revelation of Jesus Christ. 13 For you have heard of my former conduct in Judaism, how I persecuted the church of God beyond measure and tried to destroy it. 21 Afterward I went into the regions of Syria and Cilicia; 22 and I was unknown by face to the churches of Judea which were in Christ. 23 But they were hearing only, He who formerly persecuted us now preaches the faith which he once tried to destroy. 24 And they glorified God in me. Amen Questions: i. Paul was converted by revelation not through evangelism. Give a brief account of what happened on the day of the revelation. (Acts 9) ii. Can the gospel save all those who believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, including the the chiefest & baddest of sinners? (John 3: 16) iii. In vrs 13, Paul says for you have heard of my former conduct in Judaism, how I persecuted the Church of God beyond measure and tried to destroy it. Did he succeed? Can anyone destroy the church of God? Explain (Mat 16: 18) iv. According to vrs 21- 23, the inhabitants of the regions of Syria and Cilicia never knew Paul by face but knew too well the negative deeds of his past. Does the rumour of sin spread fast than the good we do? Why is that so and how can that pose as a challenge for those who are new in Christ? v. In vrs 24, Paul said they glorified God in me. Practically, how can a new convert ensure that his/her past does not become a hindrance in their walk with the Lord but a compelling reason to pursue righteousness to the glory of God. vi. Comparing Pauls past life and the things God used him for after his conversion, is it advisable for anyone to consider themslves unworthy for Gods use? Please explain your answer.
