Todays Devotion Topic: HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY (Ghana) Text: Psalm 126: 1- 5 When the Lord turned again the captivity of Zion, we were like them that dream. 2 Then was our mouth filled with laughter, and our tongue with singing: then said they among the heathen, The Lord hath done great things for them. 3 The Lord hath done great things for us; whereof we are glad. 4 Turn again our captivity, O Lord, as the streams in the south. 5 They that sow in tears shall reap in joy. Amen To be the first black country south the Sahara to attain independence is no mean achievement. Our mouths were filled with laughter and our tongues, singing. It was said across the oceans that God had visited His people in Ghana and done great things for them. We were like those who dream! 57 full years have come along, and we are still like those who dream? No Ghanaians! Let us wake up from the sleep and rise to duty. Where is the independence we attained 57 years ago? What did we do with the liberty gotten from the toil of our fathers? Are we self sufficient, self reliant and self sustaining? Is not our dependence on other economies even more prevalent now? Inspired by the Holy Spirit, the writer of psalm 126 knew very well that there is the tendency for people to unconsciously crawl back to captivity if they focus only on the excitement of their liberation but not the responsibilities that comes with it; so He repeats in verse 4 turn again our captivity, O Lord. Fellow country men ARISE, each one of us must wake up from sleep, the days of dreams are over; Let us build Mother Ghana! The country remains wounded and feeble, needing our utmost attention irrespective of our political affiliations. Remember those that sow in tears, shall reap in joy (vrs 5). Our efforts to build a solid country for ourselves and childrens children shall never be in vain if we dont give up. The pathway to recovery may be rough and challenging, but with God on our side, we will definitely enjoy the fruits of our labour. Begin to pray for Ghana now!
