Todays Devotion Topic: Personal Prayer Time (Self Assessment 56) Background: Prayer can be simplified to mean communication with God. It remains a very vital necessity in our walk with God and it must not be taken for granted. Although prayer can be said anywhere at any time, creating a serene atmosphere for it enhances its effectiveness and benefits. Our Lord Jesus Christ mostly opted for a particular time and environment for meditation and prayer. Kindly read the passage below, and share the revelations the Holy Spirit gives you with us. Text: Mark 1: 35- 37 35 Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed. 36 Simon and his companions went to look for him, 37 and when they found him, they exclaimed: “Everyone is looking for you!” 38 Jesus replied, “Let us go somewhere else—to the nearby villages—so I can preach there also. That is why I have come. Amen Questions: i. According to vrs 35, Jesus loved to pray at dawn. What could be some of the advantages of praying very early in the morning? ii. When He would pray, Jesus often looked for a quite environment away from people and familiar things. Why do you think this might be necessary? iii. According verse 36 & 37, prayer kept Jesus relevant to His generation. Explain iv. Personal prayer time everyday also kept Jesus focused and not easily swayed by the desires of the people; explain! (read vrs 38). iv. How practical can a modern day Christian adopt this principle of prayer without allowing it to affect his/ her rather busy schedule? v. What have you learnt from todays study?
