Todays Devotion Topic: Sleeping During The Sermon! (Self Assessment 46) Welcome to another beautiful saturday morning where we deliberate on the word of God both to seek His will and then to pursue it. Carefully study the passage below and share the revelations the Holy Spirit gives you with us. Text: Acts 20: 7- 12 (NIV) 7 On the first day of the week we came together to break bread. Paul spoke to the people and, because he intended to leave the next day, kept on talking until midnight. 8 There were many lamps in the upstairs room where we were meeting. 9 Seated in a window was a young man named Eutychus, who was sinking into a deep sleep as Paul talked on and on. When he was sound asleep, he fell to the ground from the third story and was picked up dead. 10 Paul went down, threw himself on the young man and put his arms around him. “Don’t be alarmed,” he said. “He’s alive!” 11 Then he went upstairs again and broke bread and ate. After talking until daylight, he left. 12 The people took the young man home alive and were greatly comforted. Amen QUESTION: i. Many of us sleep at church while the sermon is being preached, (be it a regular church gathering or and allnight service). WHAT DO YOU THINK ARE SOME OF THE FACTORS THAT LEAD TO THAT? ii. Do you think what happened to Eutychus was avoidable if Paul had cut short his sermon or you feel he was just being sluggish about spiritual things? Explain please. iii. Will it have been better if Eutychus had left the meeting for the comfort of his bed when he realised he was sinking into deep sleep? If yes- why? If no, what would have been some practical steps he could have taken to recover from slumber and benefit fully from the alnight service? iv. God resurrected Eutychus through the apostle Paul and the people were comforted. How does the miraculous hand of God go a long way to confirm His word being preached by His servants? v. Bread breaking was a fundamental and integral part of the gatherings of early christians. What do you think will be some of the advantages and (or) disadvantages to church growth if our local churches start implementing that? vi. What have you learnt from todays study? Kindly reply through this same social media platform (whatsapp / facebook). We learn so much from your responses. Counting on your cooperation.
