Todays Devotional. Psalm 51:7-15 Contributor: Sandy Soli A broken, china sugar bowl - and my mother had caught us with the evidence. It had been one of the few things she had that belonged to her grandmother. We werent supposed to play with it, but it was so pretty and we would be so careful... I honestly dont remember if my brother and I were punished, but Im pretty sure we were. I only remember the hard lesson I learned when Mom cried, but then assured us that it would be okay. She would try to glue the pieces back together. Create in me a clean heart, O God and renew a right spirit within me, is the prayer of David in Psalm 51:10. His sinful actions have brought death to Uriah and harm to Bathsheba and himself. At this point David knew he was helpless. He could not put the pieces back together. He knew in his heart that God alone had the power to provide forgiveness and renewal. And so David prays that God would change him and give him a new heart and spirit. These words, Create in me a clean heart, are so familiar to all of us, as weve repeated them time and time again. When we say these words, we admit that we are powerless and come to God with a repentant heart. His grace will come to us through no merit of our own. There is no greater blessing than this! Dear Lord, we come to you with repentant hearts. Help us to live in the assurance that you walk with us every day. In a sinful world we need your help to face temptations and to choose the path you would have us follow. Living in the light of your grace, we pray. Amen
