Todays EJ Dionne column in the Whig stumbled on the truth: In a paean to how wonderful Obamacare is working--well, okay, he admits, in KY, CT, WA and CA which set up their own exchanges rather than rely on the Feds--he cites Kentucky as a wonderful example: ...the cause of covering the 640,000 uninsured Kentuckians... Congratulations, EJ! You hit on the point that has opponents to Obamacare so much up in arms! If Obamacare were ONLY covering the 35-million Americans (OMB report) that have no insurance, MOST of those opposed to it would NOT be opposed. What they object to is making EVERYONE part of it, even people who have insurance with which they are perfectly happy. Of course, millions of THOSE people have recently been notified that their policies were being canceled by their insurance carriers because they didnt conform to the standards set up by Obamacare. Thereby forcing people to end up in Obamacare or trust in the goodness of their insurance company to come up with a compliant policy hopefully for the same price (not likely). This is what we should have done in the first place: cover that 35-million at a reasonable cost AND LEFT EVERYONE ELSE ALONE. Meanwhile, where exactly is the healthcare reform? Oh yeah, thats right, there isnt any. Prices are skyhigh, coverage is a joke (why would anyone sane take a bronze plan? but who can afford anything else?), and the costs to hospitals and doctors havent come down a bit--if anything all those tests and visits and hospital stays cost more now than they have in a long time. Thats why Im against Obamacare. Not because I ...dont want women and children to have healthcare... as a recent Democratic Party mailing claimed about opponents, but because it over-reaches and violates the privacy of honest, hard-working citizens. But Id be for it almost 100% if it simply addressed the needs of those 35-million uninsured and left everyone else alone.
