Todays Garden Report is brought to you by AMAZEMENT! I go into the garden this morning and enjoy looking at my plants. I am bummed by the failed portions of my crops, ie melons, and the second round of spinach. I am thoroughly surprised though at the new crops. Spinach and melons failed. Well research has begun on next years crops. Spinach only failed on the second planting. (Personally, where it was planted I think was eaten by the weeder and my son using it). Watching ,my fennel go to seed is awesome. The blooms look close to Queen Annes Lace but sun yellow. The green beans of old gave me a handful of beans. The new ones have amazed me in the complete covering of blooms on every plant. Oh the tomatoes. I figured my large tomato plants were pretty well done for the season, until this morning. I go through doing my normal morning inspection for bugs and picking, well what do I find but one plant, that seemed to have the hardest time this year, with all new tomatoes and new blossoms. I was so happy. My cherry tomato plants had about 3 cups worth on ready to pick, a few in between, and SO many green tomatoes. I love it. Spaghetti squash is just continuing to spread. Several have died off but two keep going. Yellow squash are down to only two plants, it confuses me. They look hardy, have several blooms but no other signs of distress and then die off. Zucchini are going strong. Several blossoms and one veggie growing larger everyday. I am just waiting patiently for the others to have produce. The potatoes, well I could not tell if they were ready to harvest. I got my answer this morning. They are all dying off and I will be pulling potatoes out of the ground. Gonna be busy putting those in jars and shredding for hashbrowns. Woohoo. Now to my sunflowers. It breaks my heart, sunflowers are my favorite flowers, to see my stalks beaten up, stalks weakened, and the broken stalks hanging over. I have harvested my heads from the stalks. More needing cut off. But just hurts to see my poor plants just hurt by one storm. Guess fall is coming in hard and fast. Have a great day All! Remember life comes full circle but celebrate as if you are never to see it tomorrow.
