Todays Indie Throwback Artist: Against Me! Today’s featured artist originates near the same area as A Day to Remember in Gainesville Florida Against Me! began as a solo project for singer/songwriter Thomas Gabel back in 1997. By 2001, Gabel was backed up by a full-fledged punk band and gained attention in the underground scene with the release of their punk rock protest Album “Reinventing Axl Rose”. Their first billboard success came in their next album “As the Eternal Cowboy” in 2003. After subsequent touring and signing to Warner Music group, Against Me! crossed over to mainstream with their 2007 album “New Wave”, which enjoyed billboard success. But under the surface Thomas Gabel was battling with himself. Since childhood, Gabel had been struggling with gender dysphoria, which made relationships hard for him since he felt he was actually a woman. So in 2012 Thomas Gabel changed her name to Laura Grace and is currently undergoing transition surgery with the support of his wife, band, and the punk rock community.
