Todays Journal Entry ... Of Mice & Men So, two weeks ago I bought a boxed implement attachment for my weedeater from the Ryobi tool sale. I brought it home, set it in the middle of the kitchen floor, and temporarily forgot about it. At about ten oclock that night, I heard ... what ... well ... sounded exactly like a box with mice trapped inside. The box was literally walking and spinning on the floor. Not thinking ... I opened the box. Two mice popped out and scurried behind my refrigerator. Ive been hearing them off and on until last night when both got caught on the glue traps I set out. They were cute little things, but I know how they can harbor bad fleas and disease. I got a kitchen towel and covered the glue trap and the mouse and saw a little bumping ... It made me sad as I took my fist and pounded down on the towel, I felt the life crush right underneath my hard balled fist delicately. Then the other. The second one bumped underneath the towel again - I picked it up and squoze tight ... again I could feel a fragile life drain and die in my hand. I thought of the prayer, Frank Abignale gives in the movie,Catch Me If You Can ... Two mice fell into a bucket of cream, the first mouse gave up and drown, but the second mouse, he kept swimming harder and harder until the cream turned into butter and he crawled out. Amen. Now guys and cowgirls reading this who hunt deer and turkey and love killing for sport are probably laughing. Thats fine. It was just reinforced more last night how fragile life is and how little time we have and how Im blessed with the talents I have. I guess in the days of the caveman ... I would be the caveman keeping record of the kills by cave markings on the walls, rather than killing. I may be the one inventing more aerodynamic spears. Either way, I know I wouldnt be the one hunting. Im blessed that theres farmers & hunters out there that face brave realities to feed me meat. Im blessed to have the ability to express myself. Thank you Jesus.
