Todays Message: BE WILLING TO SERVE OTHERS Praise the Lord!! Whoever wants to become great among you, must be your servant. (Matthew 20:27) (NLT) We find, humility fading away these days not only in the society, but also among the believers. Jesus taught us to be humble. Once a dispute arose among His disciples as to who was the greatest. When Jesus heard of this, He told them that they should not be like the Gentiles in this regard and that whoever wanted to be great must be their servant and the one who wanted to be first must be their slave. It is natural for people to demand their rights and to exert authority over others. But as followers of Jesus, we must learn to surrender our rights to Him. In I Peter 2:13, Peter writes, “Submit yourselves for the Lord’s sake to every authority instituted among men: whether to the king, as the supreme authority, or to governors, who are sent by Him to punish those who do wrong and to commend those who do right.” Bonhoeffer, a man of God has given seven principles for us to follow - to erase selfishness and develop humility. 1) Hold your tongue and refuse to talk uncharitably about a Christian brother or sister. 2) Cultivate humility by understanding that you, like Paul, are the greatest of sinners. You can only live in God’s sight by His grace. 3) Listen long and patiently so that you will understand your fellow Christians’ need. 4) Refuse to consider your time so valuable that you cannot be interrupted to help with unexpected needs, no matter how small or menial. 5) Bear the burden of your brothers and sisters in the Lord. 6) Declare God’s Word to your fellow believers when they need to hear it. 7) Understand that Christian authority is characterized by service and does not call attention to the person who performs the service. Dear friends, let us not pretend to be humble before others, but have a humble heart, then all our actions also will be truly humble. Let us willingly forego our rights and interests and come forward to help others who are in need. Let us be men and women behind the scene and throw the focus only on our Master, Jesus, bringing glory to His name. PRAYER: Heavenly Father, help me to humble before you and before men. Let me not try to exert my authority over others, but let me come down and serve others with humility and simplicity. Let me follow the example of Jesus, who humbled Himself even to the death on the cross. In Jesus name I pray. Amen
