Todays Power Metal album is Lost Horizons A Flame to the Ground Beneath (2003). As I mentioned before, Im working on a short power metal inspired comic as part of an anthology with my buddies Patrick Hoover and Robert Elrod, and I wanted to shine the light on the albums that have inspired my story. One of the major themes of power metal is self empowerment. Standing tall in the face of adversity and having the strength to overcome. Its core to most bands and usually some form of that statement can be found in most major bands, whether its fighting an army of dragons or taking a more introspective approach of personal hurtles. Its supposed to be inspirational, through its message and through its music. Power metal amps you up and makes you feel like you could take on the world, and be victorious. That is Lost Horizon in a nutshell. Not as epically fantastical as some other bands, but the rush they create is almost unmatched. Just listen to any song on here and tell me it doesnt make you throw your fist up. If you need some help, try track 8 Highlander, the albums showstopper and one of the best power metal songs ever crafter. Its 12+ minutes of pure, uplifting, metal fury.
