Todays Public Service Announcement! So, I never thought in a million years, Id come across SO many Boston Terrier snobs by taking into our family our little Misty! :) The amount of people Ive had try to tell me that she is NOT BT because of her long tail is quite surprising. I know many believe that we dont know what were doing, but weve been dog enthusiast for quite some time. I encourage people to do their research.. Below is a quote from the AKC website that talks about the docked tail being a disqualification.. why? because it happens, there are BTs born with tails. I also encourage people to realize that because a dog is not an AKC registered 100% Pure Breed dog does not mean that they do not possess the characteristics of their dominant breed! We have no idea what Mistys genealogy is (a conscious choice to choose natural selection over human breeding on our part), but one thing is sure, she IS BT all the way.. in look, disposition, intelligence, and most importantly, temperament! If I were showing her, papers would have been more important, but Im not.. and a pet is what we wanted. There are reasons why we WANTED a non-show puppy (one of which IS poor human over- breeding to meet standards)! The way she came into our family proves that she is a little God given gift... but still, I suppose If I had gone with an AKC registered pup and spent $700, Id be hearing I cant believe you spent THAT on a puppy! ahhh.. well, you cant please everyone and luckily I dont have to.. Ha! people will have their opinions.. and luckily, theirs dont count! :D Have an awesome day everyone! The tail is set on low, short, fine and tapering, straight or screw and must not be carried above the horizontal. (Note: The preferred tail does not exceed in length more than one-quarter the distance from set-on to hock.) Disqualify - Docked tail. Body Faults - Gaily carried tail. Serious Body Faults - Roach back, sway back, slab-sided.
