Todays Semi Final Intercol: Unpredictable! The only word to describe this years SSFL and todays match up against East and North zone champs, San Juan North and Mucurapo East, respectively. With various upsets, blunders and disagreements, the game concluded 1-0 in favour of Mucurapo. From the inception the game was more like a preliminary qualifier than a much anticipated semi-final. Both teams played very easily and lacked aggression. San Juan managed to have the majority of ball possession, although it was not by much. Mucurapo provided some pressure nearing the end of the second half. Thanks to the powerful defending by San Juans Josiah the Clean-up Man Trimmingham, Mucurapos attempts were literally cleared off the field and into the stands. As the 2nd half commenced San Juan stepped their game up. However frustration seemed to get the best of the players. The lack of ball boys meant that the players had to run down the balls themselves; coupled with some disagreements between their defense and midfield, the game was perhaps more mentally challenging than it should have been. It was right after this that Trimmingham fumbled in the defense and Mucurapo was able to easily poke a goal into the net. The keeper stood dazed. The East Zone champs were not having a good game as they picked up a red card shortly after. Following this goal San Juan finally got the message. With skipper Brent Sam leading the team, they ensured that the last 15 minutes were spent in their rivals half. With countless shots on goal, their zeal unfortunately came a little too late. Their season ended devastatingly. A visibly upset and annoyed Sam was seen leaving the field as soon as the final whistle blew. Despite the absence of the two national players on their team (due to red cards awarded in their win against Speyside), Mucurapo East was able to successfully deny their opponents a shot in the finals against St.Benedicts College next Friday.
