Todays Shoot for the Loot tournament was using the great - TopicsExpress

Todays Shoot for the Loot tournament was using the great tournament format single game round robin play and it would be 15 rounds of it. With 18 players showing up to battle it out there was going to be some great action. As per the format there would be some early misfortune for some players getting off to bad starts while others would storm out perfect starts and by a third of the way through the round robin Brian Belobradic and Jim McBride were perfect at 5-0 others like Carlin Sanderson 2-3 and Alex Marsilli was 1-4 but things were going to change fast. By two thirds of the way through Brian had taken 4 losses in a row and was at 6-4 Carlin had went to 5-5 and Sam Maltese, Andy Mizan and Brad Guthrie all sat at 8-2 and looking good to get in the knock out stages. There would be no more looking up the standings as the Tournament Director shut it down so as to discourage any manipulation of matches. Most everyone was still in with a shot at making the knock out stages or at least a play off position to get into them. The last two rounds became tense for a few of the players such as Carlin, Brian, Ramesh, Roland and Steve. When it was all said and done Ramesh and Roland at 8-7 would have a one game play off to get into the knock out stage. Roland would win and the final eight was set. The knock out stage is normally that straight knock out but it was decided to make it a double elimination format but still just a one game win or lose. This ramps up the nerves a bit and as always makes for some great and weird plays and upsets. The final eight were Sam Maltese, Brian Belodradic, Carlin Sanderson, Brad Guthrie, Andy Mizan, Roland Amyot, Jim McBride and Alex Marsilli. Sam and Brian would make it to the A final where Sam won a close game with both players having chances to win. On the B side Carlin and Alex got knocked out right away then Brad and Jim would be knocked out leaving Andy v Roland. Andy would run out on Roland leaving him finishing in a strong 4th place and set up a great match between Andy and Brian. Andy was at the table in a good position to run out but rolled up tight on one of his last few balls forcing an attempt to play safe which he came up short on and Brian would run the rack out and win. This sent him back to face Sam in the final and he would need to win twice. Brian won the break but got a bad kick and the cue ball fell in the middle pocket, after surveying the table Sam would start with ball in hand behind the head string and would work his way around the table smartly (for the most part one shot was questionably deferent) and would run out to win the tournament. Once again we would like to thank everyone for showing up today and participating in the tournament and congrats to Sam Maltese on his win today. Hope to see everyone again on Friday night for our weekly eight ball tournament. 1st Sam Maltese $330 2nd Brian Belobradic $200 3rd Andy Mizan $100 4th Roland Amyot $100 5-8th $60 Carlin Sanderson Alex Marsilli Brad Guthrie Jim McBride
