Todays Varsity result against SLV: North Salinas 5, SLV 9 By: Coach Ashlee The Vikings hosted the San Lorenzo Valley (SLV) Cougars in a preseason contest. The game started off with a bang, with a triple to left field. The Cougars would push across the run with a base hit from SLVs Lotz. North Salinas would answer back in the bottom of the first, combining several hits, including a RBI double off the bat of catcher Alyssa Salazar. Sophomore Nicole Martinez came through with one batted in, to put the Lady Vikings up, 3-0. SLV added a run in the second to cut North Salinas run lead to one. The VIKINGS offense would sleep several innings, before coming back in the sixth. North Salinas scored two runs within the inning. Junior Kaitlin Shipman lead the inning off with a triple to left center field. Salazar found her third run batted in with a single to left field. With two outs, junior pitcher Micaela Leal stepped to the plate, looking to add another run or the VIKINGS. Leal hit a line drive, up the middle, bringing across the fifth run for North Salinas. The Cougars would add two more runs, bringing the game to its final score of 9-5. *Todays Game Leaders: Shipman: 2-for-4, 1R Salazar: 2-for-4, 2RBI Martinez 2-for-4, 1RBI North Salinas will host Watsonville on Thursday, March 20 starting at 4:30PM.
