Todays WELLNESS WEDNESDAY inspired by my sons shoelaces (on his new shoes)! Yes, at first I was annoyed when I saw that not only are the shoelaces coming undone, but the toes are almost worn through as well (hes had them less than a month!), but then I couldnt help but think about exciting research that is being conducted on aging. I know, this is where the science loving part of me geeks out :) Okay, so what does a shoelace have to do with aging you ask? Its the perfect illustration of what a telomere is and the importance it has in keeping DNA strands in tact and dividing/replicating normally. When we are born, we have a certain number of telomeres (~10,000 base pairs). That number continues to shrink as our cells divide and we get older. When telomeres get too short, our cells die. We die of old age or chronic disease when our telomeres reach about 5,000 base pairs. Heres the exciting part: an enzyme called telomerase was discovered that helps repair and regrow telomeres! This breakthrough research and its link to aging and disease is so huge that it was awarded a Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 2009! There are many pieces to this puzzle that are still being sorted and studied extensively. As with any big discovery, the research is always evolving and advancing. Heres what really excites me: the company I am aligned with has been working with top doctors and researchers in this field for years! We have an incredible product that is scientifically designed to deliver the optimal levels of active ingredients to support telomere health. This helps telomeres do what they do best - protect your DNA, your cells, and help you age healthily. Besides having the best telomere support available, this product is also a very powerful antioxidant, which benefits the liver and brain!! Thanks to this magic wonder, nutritional cleansing, health and conscious eating, regular exercise and yoga, and other wellness rituals/habits, I plan on looking like Im in my 20s (which Im not!) for many years to come!!!
