Todays WTF -- FIFA is the governing body for world soccer and one of its responsibilities is to run the World Cup every four years. Several months ago they awarded the country of Qatar the rights to hold the 2022 World Cup. This is big for the hosting country because it brings in lots and lots of money. The problem is that Qatar is in the middle of the desert and the average temperature when the games will be played is 120 during the day. There have been many allegations that FIFA officials were less then honest and were paid huge sums of money to award the games there. So what does FIFA do? They announced that they themselves would conduct an investigation into the matter. So the very same people that would have been the ones to take the bribes are the ones who would conduct the investigation. And low and behold to no ones surprise the results of that investigation are in and it is been determined that no one did anything wrong and all the allegations are false. Florida State University has a pretty damn good football team. They are the defending college national champions. Their quarterback is Jameis Winston and he is a damn good football player. However he is a less than honorable human being. He has been accused of many indiscretions, including but not limited to rape. So what does FSU do? They announce that they themselves would conduct an investigation into the matter. The same people who basically pay this guy to win football games for them thus bringing prestige as well as money into the school will decide whether he should be disciplined and suspended. So too no ones surprise they announce that the investigation will take longer than anticipated and they will not reach a conclusion until after the football season is over when it will not matter. The National Football League has recently had a few very ugly situations with players regarding domestic violence and they have handled them very poorly and encountered public rage and accusations of cover ups. So what does the NFL do? Yes, you see the pattern. They decide that they will conduct an internal investigation. The same people who screwed it up in the first place will investigate themselves. So what happens? Well to no ones surprise, the NFL commissioner who is normally seen all over the place because one of his job requirements is to promote the NFL to help make as much money as possible, goes into seclusion and is not seen or heard from. And then the NFL quietly announces that the investigation is going to take longer than anticipated and will not be complete until after the Super Bowl is played and no one will be paying attention. Imagine if law enforcement acted that way. What if the police went to Charles Manson and said Hey Charlie, there have been a series of really heinous, brutal murders lately and we think you and your group may have been involved. Would you please conduct an internal investigation of your people and get back to us with your findings? You think old Charlie would be rotting away in jail right now????
