Todays Word 26th March 2014 March 26, 2014 at 8:38am However, each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband. (Ephesians 5:33) This is the generation of revolt and disobedience. Nobody wants to live under authority. Everybody wants to do his own thing. As such, love marriages have become the norm of the day. We see many people marrying the person whom they love. There is nothing wrong in love marriages. It is neither a sin nor a crime. The Bible doesn’t condemn love marriages and the law of the land doesn’t condemn love marriages. But, it is painful to see sixty couples out of hundred that got married in a given year running to the court of law for divorce! What is the reason for such breakdown in the system of marriage? Why do most of the couples who had entered love marriages preferring to get a divorce? As someone has wisely said happiness is not getting what you like, but liking what you get. The same principle can be applied to marriages too. Happy married life is not marrying whom you love but loving whom you marry. So many young people ask me whether it is a sin to fall in love. They enquire whether love marriage is a sin. Definitely it is not a sin to love before marriage, but it is a great sin to stop loving that person after marrying him/her! Before marrying, you have a choice to select the one whom you would love. But after marriage you have no choice – you have tolove and respect the one whom you married. In fact this is an all inclusive principle of spiritual life. We must be happy and content with what we get in life. Whatever comes into your life, receive it with gratitude as a gift of God. Don’t try to get whatever you like – rather cultivate a receptive, obedient and adjusting mind to appreciate whatever you get. 1 Timothy 6:6 says “godliness with content is great gain”. A worldly person tries to get what he likes and becomes unhappy and dissatisfied when he doesn’t get it. But a spiritual man likes and appreciates whatever he gets and leads his entire life in total satisfaction. Let us judge in the light of the Scripture what kind of persons we are.
