Todays bible verse: Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty - TopicsExpress

Todays bible verse: Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, (1 Peter 5:6 ESV) The theme of humility is splattered all over the bible. God seem to have a particular resentment for people whose egos get to big. The ones who get on a pedestal. Swell headed people. There are numerous warnings to the Israelites that when they achieve success, they must ascribe all that success to God. Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name; bring an offering and come before him! Worship the Lord in the splendor of holiness; tremble before him, all the earth; yes, the world is established; it shall never be moved. (1 Chronicles 16:29-30 ESV) Even Job after loosing everything said, “Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked shall I return. The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord.” (Job 1:21 ESV) In other words, God can remove all the blessings whenever he chooses, therefore we should not become pompous or self centered. My advise is that we receive the blessings from God with graciousness and humility. The hymn writer says Count your blessings. The emphasis is not on the numeracy but rather on being thankful that God provides, dont ever forget to remember! By the sweat of your face you shall eat bread, till you return to the ground, for out of it you were taken; for you are dust, and to dust you shall return.” (Genesis 3:19 ESV) We should never be arrogant about anything in life, instead we must take everything in stride, celebrating our blessings and praying for those who fall into calamity All go to one place. All are from the dust, and to dust all return. (Ecclesiastes 3:20 ESV) So as you climb the ladder of success, stay focus, dont boast of your strength, because you have none except it comes from God. Dont boast about your wisdom, because you have none, except it comes from God.
