Todays bite sized game review: Sound It! Found It! -- One of our more favorite games of recent memory! Out of an inventory of over 500 boardgames, Im singling out Sound It Found It! for a few reasons. First and foremost: Its a lot of fun. For everyone. Unless your name is Negative Nancy, Buzz Killington, or you are a mean spirited lean, green and hairy Dr. Seuss character who tends to rear his ugly verdant mug this time of year. If you do not fit any of those descriptions, then you will have fun playing this game. Especially if you are between the ages of 5 and infinity. Second: For a game of such funnitude, Sound It Found It! contains an exceptional level of educational value. The game promotes and encourages audio and visual processing and interpretation (just like the cable that connects your DVD player to your TV screen!), logic and deduction, oral motor skills, and will help grow your and your childs (so long as youve got at least one, and he does not fit any of the people-descriptive criteria in the preceding paragraph) vocabulary of nouns and onomatopoeia! Additionally, Ive found it to be one of the most successful games helping to bring shy and selectively mute children out of their shells. Third: Ive played this game with several groups of mixed ages and abilities, including whole gamuts of kids ranging from 5 to 15, all squeezed around the same table -- and it held *everyones* interest for over an hour straight! Not too shabby! The games difficulty is easily modifiable, making it a good time for all. The idea of Sound It Found It! is thus: Spread out one or all or any amount of the eight included tableaus on the table where all can see them. Each tableau shows a different scene, such as On The Farm, In The House, In Space, At A Ball Game, etc. Each tableau board has a corresponding deck of cards, each of which shows a different object that can be found somewhere on that board. Shuffle together the cards from all the boards that you are playing with. The Sounder for that round will draw a card and make the sound of that object. Some are obvious, such as a train (MOOOOO!) or a cat (MOOOOO!) (yes, Im horrible at this game). Others are more difficult to sound out, such as a piece of gum attached to the bottom of a shoe, or popping the tab on a can of soda. As soon as they hear the sound, all of the other players scan the boards (quite frantically) in a race to correctly identify the sounded object. First to find it keeps the card and gets to be the Sounder for the next round. Winner is the player who has the most cards after X amount of time or is first to collect X amount. Simple as that. But if thats not simple enough, theres also a JR. version of the game, called.... Me: Hey, Captain Obvious, would you come here for a moment and help me out? C.O.: Sure thing, Toy Guy -- Its....SOUND IT FOUND IT JR! Me: Thank you, Captain Obvious. And now, back to our regularly scheduled program. Sound It Found It Jr. features six boards instead of the eight that its big sibling has, and the boards mostly contain more easily identifiable pictures/sounds. Which one should you get? Easy: Both! The games can be combined every which way for a bazillion times the sounding and founding fun! Available at Toys for Thought, (Thanks again, Captain Obvious!) for $24.95. More information can be found on the manufacturers website, which is riiiight here: wowopolis/ Over n out, sports fans!
